As far as I know the question of USB with serial adapter versus com port is a question of PC hardware and perhaps Operating System. The terminal emulator just uses whichever port you point it at and does not care if it is traditional com port or USB. But if you are saying that you want something better than Hyperterm then I sympathesize with you. There are a number of emulators available that I think are better than hyperterm. I have been using SecureCRT and have been very happy with it.
